Jamo — Danish Hi-Fi & Home Audio Since 1968

Jamo is a Danish audio brand whose name is woven into the history of European hi-fi. Founded in 1968 in the small Danish town of Glyngøre, the company grew from a two-man workshop into Europe’s largest loudspeaker manufacturer — and became a household name among music lovers worldwide.

Today Jamo carries that legacy forward under a new generation of leadership, with a simple mission: bring Danish-designed quality sound to everyone. From classic hi-fi speakers to modern Dolby Atmos soundbars, Jamo pairs Scandinavian design with honest, accessible performance.

The Jamo Story

Jamo was born from a partnership between two men and their shared belief that great sound shouldn’t be a luxury. Preben Jacobsen was a skilled cabinet maker; Julius Mortensen, his brother-in-law, was an accomplished salesman. Together they founded Jamo in 1968, taking the first two letters of each surname — JA-cobsen and MO-rtensen — to name the company.

The brand grew quickly. Just ten years after its founding, Jamo’s one-millionth loudspeaker rolled off the production line. By 1991, Jamo had become Europe’s No. 1 loudspeaker manufacturer, operating the continent’s largest speaker factory at 28,000 square metres in Glyngøre.

Jamo also made history in certification and finance. In 1994 it became the first EMEA company to produce a THX-certified loudspeaker — the industry’s gold standard for cinema-grade sound. Two years later, in 1996, Jamo was listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.

In 2005, Jamo was acquired by Klipsch Group Inc. as part of its global growth strategy, and in 2008 its flagship R909 floor-standing speaker was named the best high-end speaker of the year in Europe. In 2024, a new chapter began when Rayleigh Labs and Cinemaster acquired Jamo with the explicit goal of restoring the brand to its peak of glory.

Danish Design Philosophy

Jamo’s design language is unmistakably Danish. The brand pursues what it calls “the Danish sensation of warmth, purity, and effortless sophistication” — products defined by clean lines, honest materials, and understated elegance.

Rather than decoration for its own sake, Jamo focuses on form, function, and the human touch. Technology is seamlessly integrated for a streamlined, uninterrupted appearance. The result is a harmonious blend of Nordic simplicity and refined sophistication — speakers and soundbars that feel at home in any living space, not just a dedicated listening room.

This philosophy is guided by a clear vision — “Craft sound that inspires a new generation of music lovers” — and a straightforward mission: “Bring Danish Designed Quality Sound to Everyone.”
